"Assam DSP Sandipan Garg Arrested in Zubeen Garg Death Case"
Assam: In a major development in the Zubeen Garg death case, the late singer’s cousin and Assam Police Deputy Superintendent (DSP) Sandipan Garg was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the incident, officials said.
According to a senior officer, Sandipan Garg has been booked under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including culpable homicide not amounting to murder, criminal conspiracy, and causing death by negligence. This marks the fifth arrest in the ongoing investigation.
Earlier, the chief organiser of the North East India Festival, Shyamkanu Mahanta, the singer’s manager Siddharth Sharma, and two of his band members — Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amrit Prabha Mahanta — were also arrested in the case.
Officials said the DSP had been interrogated multiple times in recent days regarding Zubeen’s death before being taken into custody. “Our team has produced him before the court and will seek police remand,” a senior officer confirmed.
Zubeen Garg died on September 19 in Singapore, reportedly after drowning while swimming in the sea. He had travelled to the island nation to attend the 4th edition of the North East India Festival, organised by Mahanta and his company.
All four accused arrested earlier remain in police custody, while the investigation continues to determine the exact circumstances leading to the singer’s death.
