HC Notice to SRK & Netflix Over Wankhede Defamation Suit"
New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday issued notices to actor Shah Rukh Khan, his production house Red Chillies Entertainment, and Netflix on a defamation suit filed by IRS officer Sameer Wankhede, who alleged that the documentary series “The Bads of Bollywood” has maligned his reputation.
Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav issued summons to all defendants, including Gauri Khan-owned Red Chillies Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., Netflix, X Corp (formerly Twitter), Google LLC, Meta Platforms, RPSG Lifestyle Media Pvt. Ltd., and John Doe, asking them to file their replies within seven days.
The matter has been listed for further hearing on October 30.
While the court did not pass any interim injunction at this stage, it directed the respondents to also file their responses to Wankhede’s plea seeking removal of the allegedly defamatory content from several online platforms.
In his petition, Wankhede has sought ₹2 crore in damages, which he has requested be donated to the Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital to aid cancer patients.
According to the plea, the series portrays a misleading and negative image of anti-drug enforcement agencies, thereby eroding public confidence in law enforcement institutions. It further claims that the content was “deliberately conceptualised and executed” to malign Wankhede’s reputation, especially while the case involving him and Shah Rukh Khan’s son Aryan Khan remains pending before the Bombay High Court and the NDPS Special Court in Mumbai.
