Deadlock in IPS Officer Y. Puran Kumar Suicide Case Continues
Chandigarh: The case of senior Haryana IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar’s suicide remains unresolved. The deadlock between the IPS officer’s family and the government has continued for six days. Today (Monday) marks the seventh day, and the post-mortem has not been conducted due to the family’s lack of consent.
On Sunday, Chandigarh Police sent a notice to the officer’s IAS wife, Amneet P. Kumar, asking her to complete the body identification process. The Chandigarh administration has decided that the post-mortem will be conducted by doctors from PGI. The medical board will also include a ballistic expert and a magistrate.
However, IAS officer Amneet and her brother, Punjab MLA Amit Rattan Kotfatta from Bathinda, have been firm on their demand for the removal of DGP Shatrujeet Kapoor. The government has already attempted to pacify the family by removing Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarnia.
Meanwhile, Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka visited Amneet Kumar’s residence in Chandigarh to express condolences. Puran Kumar was originally from Andhra Pradesh, which was later bifurcated to form Telangana.
The Telangana Deputy CM said, “The DGP and SP should be suspended and immediately arrested.” He added that Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy also spoke with the family over the phone. “We will not stay silent. If such injustice can happen to a Dalit officer, how can other Dalits feel safe? DGP Shatrujeet Kapoor had been harassing Y. Puran Kumar for a long time,” he alleged.
