"Tribute to Punjabi Singer Rajvir Jawanda – Stray Cattle Accident Raises Legal Questions"
Chandigarh: The case of Punjabi singer Rajvir Jawanda’s death caused by stray cattle has reached the Himachal Pradesh High Court. Advocate Navkiran Singh filed a petition stating that although the government is collecting a cow cess from the public, there are no proper arrangements or management in place for the care of these animals. As a result, innocent people are losing their lives in accidents caused by stray cattle.
Advocate Navkiran Singh said that the Himachal government has collected ₹100 crore through the cow cess — ₹10 is charged on every bottle of liquor sold. He added that while the government has the money, it has failed to manage or utilize it properly. He demanded that the government should be accountable for where the cow cess funds are being spent. Acting on the petition, the High Court has issued a notice to the Himachal government.
To recall, on September 27, Rajvir Jawanda was riding his bike from Baddi to Shimla when two bulls began fighting near Pinjore. In an attempt to avoid them, his bike crashed, leaving him seriously injured. He remained hospitalized at Fortis Hospital, Mohali, for 11 days, but succumbed to his injuries on the 12th day, at the age of 35.
On Thursday, his last rites were performed in his native village Pauna in Ludhiana. The next day, the family immersed his ashes at Patalpuri Sahib in Kiratpur Sahib. His mother, wife, and children were present during the rituals. Harpreet Singh, the village sarpanch, informed that a bhog ceremony for Rajvir Jawanda will be held on October 17 in Pauna village.
