Chandigarh: The Haryana government is making every possible effort to convince the family of senior IPS officer Y. Poonam Kumar. On Sunday morning, a meeting was held at the Sector-11 residence of the late IPS officer’s wife, IAS officer Amneet P. Kumar, with two senior IAS officials present. On October 7, Poonam Kumar had died by suicide at a house in Sector-11.
Chandigarh SSP Kanwardeep Kaur arrived at Amneet P. Kumar’s official residence in Sector-24 around 10 a.m. carrying some documents to meet her. She spoke with the family until around 2 p.m.
Cabinet Minister Krishan Bedi said, “We are in constant touch with the family of IPS officer Y. Poonam. It was at their request that the Rohtak SP was removed. He has not been given any new posting and remains off duty. The matter may be resolved by this evening.”
Meanwhile, Gurmel Singh, a member of the 31-member committee, said, “The family has made it clear that they cannot be silenced by offering jobs. The government is trying to act mischievously.”
The family and organizations associated with the Scheduled Caste community are holding a mahapanchayat (mass gathering) at the Guru Ravidas Gurudwara in Sector-20. People from across the state have gathered for the meeting.
