CM Bhagwant Mann Announces ₹1000 Monthly Assistance for Women from Next Punjab Budget During Tarn Taran Campaign
Tarn Taran: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Sunday announced that women across the state will start receiving ₹1000 per month from the next state budget. The announcement was made during his roadshow in Tarn Taran, held to campaign for AAP candidate Harmeet Singh Sandhu ahead of the bypolls.
Mann said the state government had already delivered on several promises, including free electricity, improved schools, and employment opportunities for youth.
“We have waived electricity bills, saved school fees for children — around ₹5000 are being saved per family every month. We have promised ₹1000 to mothers and sisters, and from the next budget, we will fulfill that commitment. We said we’d deliver in five years, and we will,” said Mann.
The Chief Minister also hit out at Akali Dal MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal, who recently claimed that during her party’s tenure, drug menace (“chitta”) did not exist in Punjab.
Taking a jibe, Mann said, “Back then, Majithia himself was known by the name of chitta. His name was used in place of drugs — people used to say Majithia poori.”
Referring to her earlier statement that those selling drugs should be left with nothing, Mann remarked,
“Indeed, now Bikram Majithia has nothing left. He even asks for a pillow in jail.”
The Tarn Taran Assembly seat fell vacant following the death of AAP MLA Dr. Kashmir Singh Sohal. Polling will take place on November 11, and counting will be held on November 14.
Four major parties have fielded their candidates:
• AAP – Harmeet Singh Sandhu
• Congress – Karanbir Singh Burj
• Akali Dal – Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa
• BJP – Harjeet Singh Sandhu
The bypoll is being seen as a key political battle in Punjab ahead of the 2025 budget session, where AAP is seeking to reinforce its governance narrative through social welfare initiatives like the monthly allowance for women
