New Delhi: In a major leadership shift, Shubman Gill has been appointed captain of the Indian ODI side for the upcoming tour of Australia, taking over from senior batter Rohit Sharma. The three-match ODI series will run from October 19 to 25 in Sydney, Adelaide, and Melbourne.
While Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli remain part of the 15-member squad, the move signals the beginning of a gradual transition in leadership. Middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer has been named vice-captain.
Pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the ODI leg to manage his workload, while opener Yashasvi Jaiswal has earned a recall following consistent T20I performances.
The ODIs will be followed by a five-match T20I series, with Suryakumar Yadav leading the side and Gill serving as his deputy.
