Rahul Gandhi calls for action against officers harassing Dalit IPS officer.
Chandigarh: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Monday launched a sharp attack on the Haryana government, demanding immediate action against officers allegedly responsible for harassment and discrimination that led to the death of a senior Dalit IPS officer.
Speaking to the media, Rahul said the officer was a serving official and his wife is also a serving officer, questioning how pressure could be exerted on such a family. “The country understands what kind of pressure can be put on them. Action must be taken immediately, and strict steps should be initiated against the officers. Arrest them and start taking action,” he said.
Rahul, addressing both the Prime Minister and the Haryana Chief Minister, said, “As the Leader of Opposition, I want to convey through the Prime Minister to the Chief Minister — you made a commitment to these two daughters; fulfill it. Let there be dignity and stop this spectacle. Take action against the officers and remove the pressure from the family.”
He further alleged that other officers systematically worked to demoralize and damage the career and reputation of the deceased IPS officer. “This is not just about one family. There are crores of Dalit brothers and sisters in the country who are getting the wrong message — that no matter how successful or capable you are, if you are Dalit, you can still be suppressed and crushed. We will not accept this,” he asserted.
Rahul also highlighted the plight of the officer’s family, saying, “The IPS officer’s two daughters have lost their father. They are under immense pressure and distress. It is clear that this Dalit couple faced systemic discrimination not just in recent days but for years.”
The Congress leader’s remarks come amid growing outrage over the death of the senior IPS officer and allegations of caste-based harassment within the police force.
