Bikram Singh Majithia Corruption Case Investigation
Chandigarh:In a major setback for senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia, the Punjab Governor has granted sanction for his prosecution in a high-profile corruption case registered by the state Vigilance Bureau.
The approval, issued under Section 19 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, follows the Punjab Cabinet’s recommendation on September 8, allowing investigators to move ahead with formal trial proceedings.
According to Vigilance Bureau findings, Majithia allegedly amassed assets worth over ₹700 crore — a staggering 1,200% more than his known sources of income. Officials claim these assets were acquired through the laundering of ₹540 crore, allegedly linked to a 2013 drug trafficking network.
Majithia, a three-time MLA from Majitha and former minister, was arrested on June 25 after simultaneous early-morning raids were conducted at 26 locations, including his Amritsar residence. During the operation, the Vigilance Bureau seized digital devices, property papers, and key financial documents.
Government sources have confirmed that with the Governor’s approval, the Vigilance Bureau will soon file its prosecution report in court, setting the stage for one of Punjab’s most significant political corruption trials in recent years.
