New Delhi: The Supreme Court has directed that stray dogs be kept away from schools, colleges, hospitals, and bus stands. On Friday, the Court said that fences should be installed around schools, colleges, and hospitals to prevent stray dogs from entering these premises.
The Court further ordered that captured stray dogs should not be released back to the places they were taken from. Instead, they must be kept in shelter homes. The Court also instructed the removal of stray animals from all national and state highways.
The apex court directed the Chief Secretaries of all states to ensure strict implementation of these orders. It has sought a status report and an affidavit on compliance within three weeks. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for January 13.
Three months ago, the Rajasthan High Court had ordered government agencies to remove stray animals from the roads and register FIRs against anyone obstructing the process. The Supreme Court has now ruled that the Rajasthan High Court’s decision will apply across the entire country.
